Beta-Glucan

What is it?

A water-soluble polysaccharide (often derived from oats or yeast), used in skincare to support barrier repair and calm visible irritation.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a 2026 study of carboxymethyl beta-glucan found it activated Dectin-1 receptors, reduced pro-inflammatory mediators while boosting anti-inflammatory IL-10, increased tight-junction and collagen-I expression, and accelerated wound repair with reduced transepidermal water loss in a 3D reconstructed human skin model -- real mechanistic and tissue-model evidence, though the authors themselves note further clinical studies are warranted.
