Bisabolol

What is it?

A chamomile-derived anti-inflammatory and soothing compound, one of the primary active constituents responsible for chamomile's calming skincare reputation.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a controlled clinical study of topical anti-inflammatory compounds used bisabolol (described as "the active component of chamomile") as an active benchmark comparator, finding it significantly inhibited methyl-nicotinate-induced erythema in human skin -- while a newer Evodia rutaecarpa biomimetic mixture was found to be even more potent, this study establishes bisabolol's own real topical anti-inflammatory efficacy as the baseline it was measured against.
