Chamomile Extract

What is it?

A classic soothing botanical extract from Matricaria recutita (German chamomile), source of the anti-inflammatory compound bisabolol.

What does it do?

Commonly used as a calming, anti-inflammatory botanical. According to PubMed, a randomized double-blind trial in head-and-neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy compared a liposomal gel with and without chamomile extract for preventing radiation dermatitis; no statistically significant difference was found between groups, though the chamomile group showed lower symptom burden and lower-grade dermatitis, suggesting a modest but not conclusively proven protective effect in this specific high-irritation context.
