Citrus Aurantium (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract

INCI: Citrus Aurantium Flower Extract

What is it?

An extract from Citrus aurantium (bitter orange) flowers, used in skincare for brightening and antioxidant properties -- a solvent extract, distinct from the steam-distilled essential oil (Neroli Oil), for which no direct literature was found this batch.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a study fermenting Citrus aurantium flower extract with Lactobacillus found the fermented extract had substantially higher antityrosinase, antioxidant, antibacterial and antiwrinkle activity than the unfermented extract, reducing melanin formation in a cell model with no toxic effect observed at tested concentrations -- real, directly on-topic cell-model evidence specifically for the flower extract (never tested as the distilled essential oil marketed as "Neroli").
