Coconut Oil
What is it?
Coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera) is a plant-derived emollient oil rich in medium-chain fatty acids, traditionally used to moisturize skin and support the skin's antimicrobial defenses.
What does it do?
Commonly used as an emollient to moisturize dry skin. A double-blind controlled trial in adults with atopic dermatitis found virgin coconut oil reduced Staphylococcus aureus skin colonization more effectively than virgin olive oil, alongside comparable moisturizing benefit.
