Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate

What is it?

A mild, coconut-derived amphoteric surfactant commonly used in baby and sensitive-skin cleansers, often paired with harsher primary surfactants to soften their irritation potential.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a 2010 patch-test study of 105 patients comparing 8 common cleanser surfactants found disodium cocoamphodiacetate was among the best-tolerated, alongside two mild anionic surfactants (sodium cocoyl glutamate and sodium lauroyl oat amino acids), causing neither irritant nor allergic reactions in any of the 105 tested patients (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20920412/ -- no DOI listed for this article in PubMed).
