Fatty Acids
What is it?
Fatty acids (including linoleic and oleic acid) are lipid components of the skin's natural barrier and are used in skincare to help support and restore that barrier.
What does it do?
Commonly used in barrier-repair moisturizers. A randomized controlled trial found a linoleic-acid-ceramide moisturizer improved outcomes when combined with standard treatment for mild-to-moderate psoriasis, and a separate study found linoleate/oleate esters upregulated genes associated with epidermal barrier repair.
