Glyceryl Stearate
What is it?
An emollient and emulsifier derived from glycerin and stearic acid, widely used to stabilize creams and lotions and soften skin texture.
What does it do?
According to PubMed, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel's safety assessment of the glyceryl monoester family (which explicitly includes Glyceryl Palmitate/Stearate) found these ingredients are generally non-irritating and non-sensitizing at cosmetic-use concentrations, with little acute or chronic toxicity in animal studies, and concluded they are safe for use in current cosmetic practice.
