Hyaluronic Acid

What is it?

Hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate is its salt form) is a naturally occurring polysaccharide in the skin that binds many times its weight in water, valued as a hydrating humectant ingredient.

What does it do?

Commonly used as a humectant to draw and hold moisture in the skin and improve surface hydration; low molecular weight forms have shown measurably better hydration results than high molecular weight forms in controlled testing.

Who may benefit?

  • May help with: Dehydration

Ingredients it works with

  • Retinol — Compatible

Hyaluronic acid is commonly paired with a retinoid specifically to offset the dryness retinoids can cause — there is no known conflict between them.
