Idebenone
What is it?
A synthetic antioxidant structurally related to Coenzyme Q10, used in anti-aging formulations to help counter UV-induced oxidative stress.
What does it do?
According to PubMed, a 2023 study using microneedle-assisted bioadhesive nanoparticles to deliver idebenone into skin found it suppressed reactive oxygen species, reduced advanced glycation end-products, and suppressed melanogenesis in UV-damaged skin more effectively than non-adhesive delivery systems -- real mechanistic evidence for idebenone's antioxidant action, from an advanced-delivery-technology study rather than a trial of a standard leave-on cosmetic formulation.
