Madecassoside

What is it?

A triterpene compound derived from Centella asiatica, studied for its role in skin wound healing and protecting keratinocytes from UV damage, distinct from the already-catalogued whole Centella Asiatica extract.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a 2025 in-vitro study using human keratinocyte (HaCaT) cell cultures found madecassoside enhanced wound healing and protected cells against UVB-induced apoptosis and loss of viability, acting through calcium-, AMPK- and mTOR-dependent ERK signalling pathways (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1080/21688370.2025.2532229). This is real but preclinical (cell-culture) evidence; no human clinical trial specifically isolating madecassoside's effect was found.
