Manketti Oil (Mungongo Oil)

What is it?

A cold-pressed seed oil from Schinziophyton rautanenii (also called mungongo, native to Southern Africa: Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe), traditionally used as a skin cleanser, moisturizer and body rub.

What does it do?

Traditionally used as a lightweight facial/body oil. A peer-reviewed study characterizing mungongo cold-pressed oil found it rich in unsaturated fatty acids (elaeostearic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid), and documented its traditional Southern African use as a skin cleanser and moisturizer, concluding the oil has real potential for cosmetic-industry applications -- fatty-acid-composition and traditional-use evidence, not a controlled clinical efficacy trial.
