Mulberry Extract

INCI: Morus Alba Root Extract

What is it?

A botanical extract from mulberry root, traditionally used in Asian skincare and studied for tyrosinase-inhibiting, skin-brightening properties.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a 2021 in-vitro study isolated five mulberrosides (stilbene glycosides) from Morus alba L. and found several inhibited tyrosinase activity more potently than the reference compound kojic acid, with the most active mulberroside showing an IC50 roughly six times lower (more potent) than kojic acid (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1002/cbdv.202100740). This is a real in-vitro mechanistic study of isolated mulberry compounds; no human clinical trial of the whole-extract product was found.
