Saccharomyces Ferment

What is it?

A yeast-fermentation-derived ingredient studied for skin-conditioning and microbiome-support claims, often combined with Lactobacillus ferment as a postbiotic complex.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a 2023 study found topical application of a postbiotic complex combining Himalaya-derived Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces ferments significantly shifted the scalp microbiome of women with sensitive scalp syndrome toward a healthier bacterial/fungal balance over 28 days, with 100% of participants self-reporting symptom alleviation (DOI: https://doi.org/10.2147/CCID.S415787). This study tested a combined Lactobacillus-and-Saccharomyces ferment complex rather than isolated Saccharomyces ferment alone, and covered the scalp rather than facial skin specifically.
