Sea Buckthorn Oil

INCI: Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil

What is it?

An oil extracted from Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) fruit, rich in fatty acids and carotenoids, used in skincare to support the skin barrier.

What does it do?

According to PubMed, a controlled study measuring skin hydration and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) over 84 days found an oil-in-water emulsion with 5% Hippophae rhamnoides extract significantly improved both skin hydration (p=0.0003) and TEWL (p=0.0087) versus a base-formulation placebo in healthy subjects -- real barrier-function clinical evidence.
