Sodium PCA
What is it?
The sodium salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA), a genuine component of skin's natural moisturizing factor (NMF).
What does it do?
A natural moisturizing factor (NMF) component -- human stratum corneum studies show PCA, alongside lactate/urea/sodium/potassium, is reduced in dry/anhidrotic skin and in atopic dermatitis, correlating with lower hydration. These studies establish PCA's physiological role in NMF by measuring endogenous levels, rather than testing topical sodium PCA supplementation directly.
