A long-used keratolytic and sebum-regulating mineral ingredient, historically one of the earliest topical treatments for acne-prone skin.

A traditional keratolytic/sebum-regulating agent for acne-prone skin. According to PubMed, a historical review of American acne treatment traces sulfur preparations back to some of the earliest rational (non-humoral) topical acne therapies from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, predating antibiotic and retinoid-era treatments -- real historical/traditional-use documentation; modern controlled clinical trial data specific to sulfur alone is comparatively limited versus newer acne actives.
