A randomized double-blind controlled trial found tranexamic acid/niacinamide creams (both niosomal and conventional formulations) performed comparably to hydroquinone, the gold-standard treatment, for melasma, and a separate open-label study found a tranexamic-acid-containing serum improved melasma and PIH severity over 16 weeks.
