Tremella Extract
What is it?
Tremella extract (from Tremella fuciformis, "snow mushroom") is a polysaccharide-rich fungal extract used in skincare as a moisturizing ingredient, sometimes marketed as a plant-based alternative to hyaluronic acid.
What does it do?
Commonly used as a moisturizing, antioxidant ingredient. A laboratory study comparing Tremella fuciformis extract to hyaluronic acid in human dermal fibroblasts found the extract produced comparable wound-healing-supportive effects (collagen biosynthesis, scratch-wound closure) through different mechanisms, and a separate study found a Tremella polysaccharide hydrogel provided real antioxidant and skin-whitening effects against UVB damage — both real but preclinical (cell-culture/in vitro) evidence, not yet human clinical trials.
