Ceramide NP

What is it?

Ceramide NP (non-hydroxy fatty acid, phytosphingosine) is one of the specific ceramide species most commonly used in skincare formulations, valued for closely matching the ceramide subtype naturally dominant in human skin.

What does it do?

Commonly used, typically blended with other ceramide species, cholesterol and fatty acids, in barrier-repair moisturizers. A split-face randomized trial testing a ceramide/cholesterol/fatty-acid lipid complex (of which Ceramide NP is a representative component species) found reduced transepidermal water loss and erythema after microneedling.
