Commonly used as a moisturizing emollient. A within-person randomized clinical trial comparing extra virgin olive oil to petrolatum found olive oil has real, measurable effects on stratum corneum hydration and skin barrier function, though petrolatum remains the more occlusive comparator.
Beeswax

Occlusive/emollient and emulsion-stabilizing ingredient -- forms a barrier on skin that reduces transepidermal water loss; a nanostructured-lipid-carrier gel using beeswax as the solid lipid phase showed 2.8-fold higher skin hydration than a beeswax-free gel on an ex vivo model.
