Standard Beauty
CERious PrOATection Moisturiser
4.5/5 from 854 members
A ceramide, panthenol and squalane barrier cream that genuinely earns its price — one of the best-value moisturisers we've tested locally.

Skin Functional
2% Alpha Arbutin + Hyper-Brite Complex
4.2/5 from 378 members
A genuinely strong multi-pathway brightening stack — arbutin, tranexamic acid, kojic acid and niacinamide together — and one of the best-value pigmentation serums sold in SA.

Skin Functional
10% Niacinamide + NAG + Succinic + Zinc
4.3/5 from 592 members
An excellent, tightly evidence-aligned acne, sebum and pore formulation — arguably the best-value oil-control serum in this file.

Lelive
All the Shade Tinted SPF30
3.9/5 from 689 members
100% mineral zinc oxide with a sheer tint and genuinely no white cast across SA skin tones — the only ceiling is that it's SPF30, not 50.
Lamelle
Serra Restore Cream
4.1/5 from 507 members
An excellent, evidence-driven lamellar barrier cream built around patented Ceramide-P — premium priced, but the formulation quality justifies it for compromised skin.
Fundamentals
6% Niacinamide Serum
4.1/5 from 801 members
Honest, no-frills and superb value — 6% is a gentle, effective sweet spot, proving you rarely need to pay more than R250 for a single-active serum.
How SkinLabs reviews skincare products
Every product on this page is scored the same way: full ingredient list analysis against the evidence for what each active actually does at the concentration it's formulated at, then real-world assessment of texture, absorption and how it behaves under South African heat, humidity and sun exposure — conditions a lot of international reviews simply never test for. We score four things independently — efficacy, value, texture and SA climate fit — and the product's overall rating is the average, not a marketing-friendly round number.
Where a brand sends us a product or sample, that's disclosed on the review itself and it doesn't change the score — a gifted product held to a lower bar isn't a review, it's an advertisement. SkinLabs® is partly ad-supported, so this page carries ads and some reviews are marked Sponsored, where we earn from a disclosed brand or marketplace partner. That label never changes the verdict: brands can't buy a higher score, a better position in the grid or a more flattering write-up.
New reviews are added continuously as we work through the South African skincare shelf — from budget pharmacy staples to clinic-exclusive actives — and every review links through to the Shelf Showdowns and Daily Skinny briefings that reference the same ingredient evidence, so you can keep digging into the "why" behind any score.
