Ingredients
Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are genuinely effective for anti-aging and acne, but "retinoid" covers a range — cosmetic retinol, retinal, prescription-strength adapalene and tretinoin all differ in strength and how they're used. There's no single universal starting percentage; check the product's own directions and your tolerance. Most people do best starting low, using it 2–3 times a week, and always pairing it with daytime sunscreen, since retinoids increase sun sensitivity.
Retinoids are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If either applies to you, talk to a doctor or dermatologist before starting one.
